Roadmap
Kemoverse Online is all about:
- Hosting a comfortable socializing online space
- Telling a serious, grounded yet emotional story
- With a unique and characteristic identity and style
The journey is intended to be a coming-of-age story between your character and the world of the Kemoverse, where they have to learn to play along with the reality at hand. The beginning is a visual exploration of characters and their feelings and beliefs as yourself comes to grip with the world. But as the story carries on, the tone evolves: their status quo changes, their campus gains and loses influence, and the characters become forced to adapt, just like yourself.
And really, who are you, anyways? A lost Kemona with a made-up name? It's not like you have a say in your survival, anyways. Could you speak up and rebel? Probably not. You're good at understanding things and playing along. But what would you do when duty fails and you must pick, one or the other? Do you really know?
Besides the story of coming to your senses, the intention is also to set up a worldbuilding narrative that will be the basis for a larger, more comfortable virtual space - the town. I want to create Khara, inhabited by players immersed and passionate towards this reality and decorating and living out to their comfort. Backed with a well-written story and compelling characters and worldbuilding, I want it to feel so believable that it could've existed sometime, somewhere. And if it gets to this point, it will have existed virtually.
But until then, the campus is what matters, no? Now that the online systems are in-place, the focus is on story. We have at least nine younger campus characters, some older teacher characters, and a few extra ones for the purpose of the story. We have eight lessons total that serve to both introduce gameplay basics but also to introduce all of the characters. Each lesson has about one to two hours of story-heavy gameplay. Finally, the eigth lesson is focused on the adventure test, a test by the campus to prove your survival skills in the wild. But just before you leave... you need a team, right? That's where the socializing comes in, both offline and online, as you can pick who to rely on for the challenge.
{Player}, who is that? Someone from the campus? Oh, that place. Listen. The campus doesn't matter here, no matter what you think. How come? They do honest work for us to survive. Yeah, but they're also... not there yet. In Khara, you need more wit and courage to get anywhere. Don't look sad, you were given another chance, didn't you? Now get to work!
Building this kind of game as a single developer is a multi-year project. I know it won't be a quick one way street to success and riches - in fact, I'm aware I'm spending time, money, and passion to continue. I think that creating a unique work of art in the end is more important than what traditional success is. Nothing can change this because I've already committed myself. The good news is that I've got the will, time and endurance to keep going, as you can hopefully tell on the right. Until then, planting the seeds, advancing little by little for something special in the end is enough to keep going.
In short...
Kemoverse is in my heart, and I think it should also be in yours!
